SOUPER EVENT: Earlier this week, the kids, my parents, a WHOLE bunch of people, and I worked hard on weeks-in-the-making, a multi-faceted fund raiser.
"Empty Bowls" events have been around for decades. Generally speaking, they are get togethers highlighting the fact that too many go hungry, and offering ways to help. Often, the events involve auction off or selling handmade bowls coupled with serving soup. We did both.
Parents and students at the kids' school created ceramic bowls. Those were offered up for adoption at out event on Tuesday, out in the main hallway of the kids' learning center. Here are a few of those bowls.
In the cafeteria area, no less than two dozen different kinds of soups were up for the scooping. Beautiful, amazing soups!.For the hour of our event, it was the best smelling spot in Seattle, without a doubt.
While people were enjoying the soup smorgasbord, students were sharing important info about hunger and homelessness. And before the lunch hour was up, we had a sing along that included "This Little Light of Mine" and the theme from "The Golden Girls." Big fun!
The kids and I posted this graphic in the hallway today, to help everyone realize just how much awesome they'd done!
